We are looking for a Optimization Software Engineer to join our Energy department based in Louvain-la-Neuve.

Who We Are

N-SIDE is a world leader in increasing the efficiency of life sciences and energy industries by providing software and services that optimize the use of natural resources, facilitating the transition to a more sustainable world.

To achieve this, N-SIDE leverages its deep industry knowledge, technical expertise, and understanding of applied mathematics to help global pharmaceutical and energy companies anticipate, adapt, and optimize their decisions.

In the energy industry, N-SIDE helps electricity market and grid operators in enabling a safer and faster transition toward renewable sources.

As a Optimization Software Engineer, you will help the company be the top reference in Advanced Analytics Solutions for energy markets & power systems. You will contribute in particular to the development, maintenance and operation of auction algorithms and platforms for energy markets.

What You’ll Do

Together with the N-SIDE team, you will develop, deliver and maintain software solutions for our clients (code base related to the Energy domain, and more specifically innovative market clearing solutions, in particular our Power Matching solution):

Collaborate with the product owners, analysts and tech lead to gather and analyze requirements (which could be algorithmic / optimization requirements but not only), and design software solutions that meet business needs.
Implement optimization solutions customized to the needs of the customers. This involves either reusing existing code blocks or adapting them to fit the specific business requirements. It's important to note that while this mathematical aspect is an important part of the role, it typically constitutes a maximum of 30% of the developer's workload
Integrate the product with the systems of the customers. Configure and maintain the deployment environments, ensuring reliability, scalability, security and performance.
Contribute to the successful delivery of the solution, by providing technical documentation and training.
You will participate in ensuring the successful operation of our Energy applications:

Oversee logs, alerts, and performance of our solutions, with promptly reacting to any issues that arise.
Support our clients on their daily usage of our Energy applications. You will respond to incoming user requests and provide prompt, efficient, and courteous support via the helpdesk (ticketing system and/or phone call). You will iterate with the users to clarify their requests and work on the resolution of the technical incidents. This task will constitute a minor portion of your responsibilities, yet may occasionally (1 weekend every 5 weeks) require completion outside of regular business hours (with additional compensation and/or benefits provided).

About You

You have a master in Computer Science, Software Development or Applied Mathematics.
You have a first similar experience.
You are adaptable and versatile, comfortable working across various domains within software development. This role requires a willingness to contribute to different aspects such as design, implementation, testing, continuous integration & continuous deployment, and even delve into mathematical aspects when needed.
You have an interest in the design, valorisation and use of diverse advanced analytics techniques and optimization methods.
You possess strong programming abilities, particularly in Java (or a similar object-oriented programming language) and python. You are customer-minded, rigorous and results-driven.
You demonstrate excellent problem-solving abilities. You are able to break down complex problems into manageable components and devise efficient solutions. You are not afraid of diving in a new codebase with limited supervision and documentation.
You have a continuous learning mindset. The tech stack is constantly evolving, so a willingness to continuously learn and adapt to new technologies, tools, and best practices is essential for long-term success.
You have a great team spirit, creativity, sense of initiative and responsibility.
Experience in the Energy sector, in particular electricity markets and power systems operation, is a nice-to-have;
You are fluent in English, other languages are a plus.
